They basically sell 25% of all music in Japan which is pretty crazy. The structure of the group is even crazier. They elect all members of the group every year by a televised vote. It starts with thousands of girls across Japan auditioning, and then the top 16 get to be in the band for that year. The higher your vote, the more you get featured in the band. It's a big phenomenon over there and none of these girls can walk the street in public or they will get swamped. If they go out, they wear masks (which is normal in Asia as you frequently see people with surgical masks on to protect people from getting colds). Once again I was my own DP on this video and I shot it on RED Epics. We built the set on a stage a couple hours outside of Tokyo and the crew did it in two days. I really like working with Japanese crews as they treat the director with a lot of respect unlike in LA where PA's try to sell drugs on my set.
